Blue sky fitness

Right now, there are thousands of FREE fitness classes – covering everything from archery to Tai-Chi – being hosted in our beautiful parks and open spaces.

Not only is this big news for health, it’s a wonderful way to bring communities together – without anyone breaking the bank.

Impressive initiatives have sprung up countrywide (often in association with councils and local authorities) to provide locals with first-class outdoor fitness for free. Our Parks (ourparks.org.uk) is a great example – all of its one-hour classes are led by fully-qualified, insured instructors and booking can be completed easily online. ParkLives is equally impressive and ideal for those who live outside the capital.

Are you ready to see what’s on offer?

SkipFit
A blast from the playground past and a sure-fire way to get fit. Mixing old-fashioned skip-ping with boxing and kickboxing moves, this is not only a cardio-tastic class, it’s a toning sensation for the limbs too. This one comes with an Our Parks ‘blue’ intensity rating, which means it’s not exactly a leisurely stroll in the park.

There are classes held at various parks across the country, including Chingford’s Ridgeway Park and Leyton Jubilee Park in London.

Green Fit Baby
Mum and baby can bond over outdoor exercises that are specifically designed for postnatal mums and incorporate pushchairs or prams. It’s a great way for new parents to break out of the new baby routine, get back into exercise and meet like-minded people in a supportive, picturesque environment – there’s even a cuppa and a chat session after-wards.

These classes are brought to you by ParkLives, which is currently active in Birmingham, Glasgow, Dundee, Newcastle, London, Nottingham, Southampton, Stoke and Swansea.

Happy Bootcamps
Welcome to the FREE global fitness and social movement that is Happy Bootcamps, a bold initiative aiming to help one billion people around the world get active and SMILE! Their boot camps are hosted by countries as far-flung as Philippines, but nearer to home, you can get fit and happy at locations in Widnes, Manchester and London.

The camps are hard work but worth it.
