A Luxury Family Break

A Luxury Family Break at the Fairmont Royal Palm, Marrakech
Can you really have a truly relaxing break with three young kids in tow? LK’s Nasar Niaz discovered for himself…

If you’re looking for a hotel that seamlessly combines first-class service, laid-back chill with amazingly family-friendly elements, then the Fairmont Royal Palm in Marrakech needs to be on your destination radar.

Just over three hours from the UK, Morocco has long since been a popular hotspot for those looking for a short break in the sunshine, which means taking the kids for a long weekend couldn’t be easier.

When Nasar Niaz, accompanied by his wife Sam and their three children, were looking for a family friendly holiday that would tick all the boxes, the Fairmont Royal Palm stood out from the rest. But did the hotel meet their expectations?

Fairmont Royal Palm
While you can enjoy the hustle and bustle of the Medina just a short distance away, Nasar explains that it was being able to retreat to the peaceful oasis of the Fairmont Royal Palm that was one of its most outstanding qualities. Not only is there epic views of the neighbouring Atlas Mountains, but planted in the grounds are some 4,000 olive trees – creating an idyllic escape for the whole family.

“The overriding atmosphere of the Fairmont Royal Palm is of peace, quiet, space and light everywhere,” Nasar explains.

And with the hotel set over 550 acres of breathtaking landscape – there is much for the kids to explore, too, from the architecture, to the hotel’s organic farm which is home to many animals including rabbits and baby tortoises. Not only can families interact with them but pick lemons and oranges from the vast orchards – and enjoy the juice of their hoard afterwards.

Relaxing at the Fairmont Royal Palm
If you tire of sunbathing by the hotel’s impressive heated outdoor pool, which also welcomes younger guests, then perhaps, like Nasar and Sam, you might want to head to the spa to enjoy Hammam treatments, amongst several others on offer, and a swim in the tranquil atrium pool.

Spa not so much your thing? Then maybe a round of golf on their 18-hole course might be of interest, as well as the numerous programmes such as yoga at the Fitness Centre?

Dining at the Fairmont Royal Palm
With four restaurants, the Niaz family were spoiled for choice for dining options. While they all agree that they had the ‘best burger ever’ at L’Olivier, which is situated by the pool area, and that the buffet breakfast every morning was a delight because of the wide choice of food on offer, Nasar admits that one of his favourite meals was at Al Aïn which serves up modern Moroccan cuisine.

“We all adored entering the restaurant as you have to cross over a bridge above the main reception,” says Nasar. “It was a great evening and the food was excellent. There was also live traditional Andalusian music and children were encouraged to dance and join in. Such a great experience for us all.”

Throw in the amazing Italian brunch at the golf clubhouse (on Wednesdays) then you have the perfect selection for the family.

Kids’ Club
If the kids are happy then parents are able to unwind, with peace of mind they’re in safe hands. The Fairmont Royal Palm’s kids’ club is open daily until 11.00pm – which means there is ample opportunity for kids to enjoy the numerous activities from arts and crafts, cooking classes to tennis, while mum and dad can have a break. In fact, Nasar’s daughter enjoyed it so much she didn’t want to leave!

“Aleeha loved it so much, that when we came to get the boys in early evening, and she wanted to stay on by herself until till 9.00pm!” explains Nasar.

Verdict
The Fairmont Royal Palm in Marrakech really knows how to welcome their guests, effortlessly catering to the needs of those young and old. With such a winning combination, Nasar and Sam agree that it really is possible to have relaxing luxury family break.

“We had such an amazing experience and would definitely recommend the Fairmont Royal Palm Marrakech as a place to stay for any family.”
