Five winter skincare tips

Combat dry winter skin with these simple tips for retaining your skin's natural moisture

Switching to an oil-based moisturizer helps to balance the skin and give it a natural glow. Overnight deep moisturizer treatments can particularly help with dry areas such as hands, feet and lips – which are particularly susceptible to the cooler temperatures.

Turn the heat down
A long steamy shower may sound appealing but your skin won’t thank you for it. Warm temperatures actually dry out skin and strip away your body’s natural oils. Instead, opt for a 10 minute lukewarm shower to keep your skin feeling nourished and looking great. After bathing or showering pat dry and moisturize your damp skin.

Hydrated from the inside
Not drinking enough water can affect the appearance of your skin and also make it more susceptible to drying out. It’s important to keep hydrated during the winter months to help keep your skin glowing and healthy - so remember to drink two-litres of water per day.

Add moisture to your home
Winter can see us stuck inside for long periods of time which can impact upon your skin. Boost the amount of moisture in the air with a humidifier, particularly in the rooms you spend the most time in, including your bedroom.

Wear suncream
Although the sun might not be out wearing suncream is an effective way of keeping your skin looking radiant. Freezing temperatures can leave your skin dry and agitated allowing for harmful UV to penetrate. Using suncream in the winter can help restore some of your skin's depleted moisture and can also act as an anti-ageing treatment. Use SPF 30 or higher for full protection.
