American football is one of Britain’s fastest growing sports, with 38,000 grassroots players and coaches across the country. It’s also easy to get started as most clubs regularly hold trial days and even provide the necessary kit to first-timers. And even if you’re worried about the dangers of tackling, all ages and genders can enjoy the sport through its non-contact variant – ‘flag football’.
The popularity of the sport is enforced every year as Wembley stadium has hosted packed out National Football League (NFL) matches since 2007. The three scheduled for 2014 are already sold out!
The BAFA runs a Coach Education programme that offers graded levels of qualification, workshops, and conventions featuring top British and American coaches.
British American Football Association (BAFA) clubs stretch the country all the way from Newquay to Inverness! These clubs offer people the opportunity to play both the full-contact game and flag football. For a full list of member clubs please visit the BAFA ‘Club Finder’.
With the rising popularity of grassroots level American Football, more officials are needed! The BAFA Referees’ Association offers a comprehensive training programme, including qualification clinics, on-field training, localised support groups and national conventions.
The majority of clubs are made possible thanks to volunteers. If you want to get involved in a friendly environment that supports involvement with a team, visit BAFA’s website for details.
