GET LIFTING!

Everyone has done a bit of lifting in their life whether it is moving boxes or carting the groceries. But if you think that you want to make it a more regular, organised thing, the sport of weightlifting is a great way to push your body to the limits and compete with others doing the same.  More women are being attracted to weightlifting as the sport’s toning and fitness benefits are increasingly recognised and thanks to the inspiring Olympic performance of Britain’s Zoe Smith. Clubs can help juniors develop from novice to international level and the sport is open to disabled athletes in the form of the IPC Powerlifting bench press.

JOIN THE CLUB

The weightlifting club world in Britain isn’t as big as a lot of other sports, but there are still places across the country where you can find your route in. To help you out, British Weight Lifting have a club listing on their website.

VOLUNTEER

Volunteers can get involved in weightlifting at local clubs or on a national level and are crucial in helping to organise the variety of competitions held regularly across the country. Tasks can range from bar loading to scoring the competitions.
