From first rides to e-bikes, discover new ways to enjoy cycling more and make every journey count
Ditching traffic stress isn’t just good for your peace of mind – it’s good for your heart and the planet too. Cycling commuters have a 45% lower risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease – and the lowest carbon footprint to boot. Whether you’re brand new to the saddle or ready to switch four wheels for two, we’ve got the intel you need to get started, go further and cycle smarter.
Learn to ride
It’s never too late to learn to cycle. If you’ve never ridden (or it’s been a while) you can sign-up for a learn-to-cycle session in your area. Many local authorities offer free one-to-one or group lessons for adults looking to learn or brush up their skills.
Join a guided ride
Joining a guided or social ride is a great way to connect with other riders, explore new routes, gain confidence and stay motivated. British Cycling offers free guided rides for cyclists of all abilities led by expert local guides, including their women-only Breeze rides.
Cycling for all
Schemes like British Cycling’s inclusive club programme, Limitless, make cycling accessible to everyone, regardless of age, impairment, ability and experience level. Want to cycle to work? You can even access adapted cycles and trikes through Green Commute Initiative, the award- winning provider of the Cycle to Work Scheme.
Upgrade your gear
Bike seen better days? Power up your cycling experience with an e-bike – you can still go full pedal when you want to get your heart rate up, but cruise through tough climbs and rush hour traffic when you need to. Through Green Commute Initiative, you could get a £4,000 e-bike for just £97 a month, saving £1,680. You can add accessories like helmets, locks, lights, panniers, reflective clothing and child seats too, to make your new ride work even harder.
Join the club
Join a community of like-minded cyclists on the Love to Ride platform. Through the free platform or app, you can share the best cycle routes in your area, track your mileage, calculate your carbon savings and set goals to push yourself further. You’ll join the GCI leaderboard and enter into friendly competition with other cycling commuters, and you’ll also have exclusive access to features, challenge invitations such as Cycle September and entries into prize draws.
