Children from disadvantaged backgrounds in Kent are being given the chance to learn tennis for free, thanks to a new community project called Rally for Change, run by Net Gain Communities and Infinity Tennis.

Funded by local businesses and club members, the initiative will provide 16 children with two coaching sessions per week for a year, along with a free tennis racket. Eligible participants must receive free school meals, live near Margate, Broadstairs, Ramsgate, Herne Bay or Faversham, and be referred by their school.

The programme aims to improve physical and mental wellbeing, build confidence, and offer new social opportunities through sport.

Infinity Tennis Head Coach Gavin Vickers, who benefited from similar support as a child, said: “Tennis helped me through tough times – I want to pass that on.” He added: “Tennis isn’t just for Wimbledon fortnight. Our kids play all year – even in the snow!”
