Become a volunteer

Volunteers are vital to table tennis in the UK. Whether you’re interested in officiating or supporting behind the scenes, there are many ways to get involved

Table Tennis England offers training and opportunities in umpiring, event support, admin, and more.

Team London Volunteering is recruiting around 200 volunteers for the Star Contender event at the Copper Box Arena from 20–26 October.

Once you’ve registered as a Team London Volunteer and completed your welcome training roles can include Hospitality, Fan Engagement, Medal Ceremonies, Field of Play and more. 

Volunteers who complete their shifts will be prioritised for next year’s World Championships. 

Become an umpire

Becoming a qualified umpire or coach is a great way to support the sport, develop skills, and stay connected to competitions and clubs

Qualified umpires are essential for tournaments, ensuring matches follow the laws of table tennis. 

Table Tennis England offers a clear pathway for aspiring officials. The new Level 1 (County Umpire) course, developed with Sports Officials UK, equips delegates with the skills and confidence to umpire at all competitive levels. 

For those interested in coaching, Table Tennis England coaching courses are split onto Level 1 and 2 qualifications: 

  • The Level 1 Session Coach course (age 16+) teaches planning and delivering basic coaching sessions, costing £190 with a one-year coaching licence included.
  • The Level 2 Lead Coach course (age 18+) builds on Level 1 experience for those ready to lead sessions, costing £270 with a one-year licence. Clubs can host courses or express interest if local sessions aren’t available.

Table Tennis England also offers a Level 3 Head Coach qualification, a demanding, year-long program for coaches holding a Level 2 Lead Coach qualification.
