Want to play Tennis or fancy trying your hand at Padel? There’s a surge in Padel tennis clubs opening up around the UK, in some cases alongside or even in place of tennis courts.

Become a tennis or padel coach

There are many ways to get involved and LK has listed a few recommended courses and pathways

  • The Pre-LTA Assistant (Level 1) course is for women who are interested in finding out more about tennis coaching and how to get involved.
  • LTA Assistant (Level 1 qualification) is a two-day qualification course that equips tennis parents, enthusiasts, and players with skills to assist group coaching, covering communication, organisation, differentiation, basic technical and tactical knowledge, player development, safeguarding, and LTA Youth delivery essentials.
  • The LTA Senior Coach (Level 4) qualification is designed for coaches seeking to advance their on- and off-court skills beyond Level 3, providing an ideal pathway for those pursuing higher-level tennis coaching credentials.
  • LTA Padel Instructor (padel-specific coaching pathway) This five-day course, combining core and elective days, equips aspiring coaches to deliver high-quality group lessons for adults and juniors, offering a pathway into padel coaching.
  • British Padel Tennis Association  Qualifications are attained for coaching, providing training, best-practice standards, and providing ongoing support to ensure high-quality tuition, play, and professional coaching credentials for all participants.

Barclays Free Park Tennis Activators lead weekly, free, social tennis sessions for all ages and abilities. Trained volunteers organise, run, and promote community play, bringing energy, enthusiasm, and support to local parks.

Padel volunteering offers a fulfilling way to support local and regional play, helping grow the sport, develop skills, make friends, influence club activities, and enjoy the mental and social benefits of padel.

Volunteer with Tennis Wales offer roles ranging from committee positions to event support, maintenance, or IT help. There’s something to suit every skill, interest, and time commitment. Over 25,000 volunteers help grow tennis across Britain. Roles suit all lifestyles, on or off court, offering opportunities to impact communities, develop skills, make friends, and enhance mental wellbeing.

Tennis for All takes the sport into the inner cities, they collaborate with housing groups and councils to redevelop local play spaces. Volunteers aged 14+ can gain experience without a coaching badge by contributing their time.

Taking tennis into schools

The FAGE LTA Youth Tennis Leaders programme offers 11-18-year-olds the chance to develop tennis and leadership skills for free. Leaders support coaches, venues, and community projects, gaining experience on and off the court. Benefits include new skills, friendships, career pathways, and opportunities to make a lasting impact locally.

The FAGE LTA Youth Schools programme offers free, inclusive tennis resources for primary and secondary schools, supporting PE lessons, personal development, and wider school outcomes.

Created by teachers for teachers, the programme provides lesson plans, videos, competitions, and teacher training. Schools can register via the FAGE LTA Youth Schools portal to access resources, training, and exclusive offers such as the Wimbledon Schools ballot. 

Completing online training also rewards schools with a £250 voucher for equipment or 10 hours with an LTA Accredited Coach.
