“I’m always happiest when I’m by the sea, or on it. I’m a year round paddle boarder and love to venture out to new top spots, ideally with a waterside pub along the way. I’d love to go back to Japan and Finland one day, but definitely have a soft spot for Italy and Mexico – mainly because of the food! One of my best trips involved cycling the length of Vietnam, but scuba diving in Papua New Guinea was pretty memorable too. I grew up in the Midlands but now live on the sunny south coast of England with my partner and our wonderful son, Reggie.”

“If you had to choose one YOLO experience, what would it be?

To cycle the South Downs Way. I’d love to push myself to go that far, camping along the way. Having done parts of the route, I know the solace and views would make the effort all worth it.

What’s been your best active travel experience?

Wild camping in the Lake District. I went in a small organised group and wehiked to a peak before setting up camp for the night. It was beautiful and quiet, and wild swimming the next day made it better.

Any tips for planning a YOLO experience?

Just do it! Don’t let excuses stop you. Even if you don’t complete it, you can always go back and try again. Don’t be negative and don’t let anyone put you off if it’s something you want to do. Be prepared, research and use websites and blogs wisely to help you plan.
