On course for weightlifting success

The old idea of what weightlifting entails is well and truly consigned to history, and it is now celebrated as a full-body workout with endless health benefits.

And, if you’d like a slice of the action, British Weight Lifting (BWL) offers courses for everyone from beginners to coaches.

Why weightlifting?
Not only does weightlifting build muscle, burn fat, improve bone, joint and heart health, it too increases metabolism and controls blood sugar levels. Furthermore, it boosts your power, endurance and co-ordination – the perfect addition to your training regime for lots of other sports.

It might seem like a big task to get started, but BWL will support you every step of the way.

Whether you’re a beginner or have some experience behind you, BWL has a series of courses to help you achieve your goals. The BWL website has a Find a Course function which is ideal for new starters and also details of how experienced participants can improve their lifting. If you invest in BWL membership (from only £20 a month), you can enjoy generous discounts too.

There too is a BWL College, where 16 to 18-year-olds can study, amongst other things, a British Weight Lifting Diploma. The high-quality specialist study programmes delivered are designed for those who have a passion for sport and a desire to progress to university or employment within the sports industry.

Coach or instruct
For those experienced lifters, BWL delivers a variety of industry-recognised courses and qualifications for coaching, instructing and those looking to train toward being a technical official. Sharing your weightlifting experience with others and inspiring them to move forward is a great way to give back and gaining new leadership/teaching skills will support other areas of your life.

Not just for guys
Weightlifting is no longer just about boys and bulk, and that’s why we love BWL’s #STRONGISNOTASIZE campaign. Click here to read some inspiring campaign stories about successful female participants.
