How to keep happy and healthy this winter

Supercharge your defences and protect your health this winter by following these health tips

Vitamin supplements

Taking a vitamin supplement is an additional way to help our immune systems stay in prime condition. While we try to get all of our nutrients as part of healthy diet sometimes we need that added layer of protection. Vitamins C and D play an important role in helping support our immune systems, helping protect cells, as well as maintain healthy skin and blood vessels. There are a wide variety of supplements to choose from, speak to your pharmacist to find the right one for you.

Get outdoors
Whether it’s a winter walk or a run around the park it’s important to stay fit and active during the winter. Although it can be tempting to stay indoors, too much time inside can lead to a Vitamin D deficiency that can negatively affect your health. So pull on those walking boots and get outside.

Stay hydrated
Colder weather can make it more difficult to notice when your body is sweating. Perspiration combined with the extra layers of clothing and drier air can cause our bodies to become dehydrated without us even noticing. Make sure you keep hydrated by setting a water goal or carrying a refillable bottle.

Sleep well
Don’t underestimate the impact of a good night’s sleep - repeatedly skimping on slumber can negatively affect your health and wellbeing. Aim for eight hours of quality sleep each night to wake up feeling great. Avoid caffeine, exercise, and eating food immediately before you go to bed as this can disrupt your sleep.
