GET RIDING!

Horse riding can relieve stress and is even used as a therapy for the mentally and physically disabled. However, it is also a surprisingly effective workout – burning hundreds of calories at running pace. The British Equestrian Federation established the Hoof Olympic and Paralympic Legacy Campaign to help get more people into the variety of equestrian sports available, hopefully after being inspired by the incredible performances by Britain at the London 2012 Games. The Hoof website [http://www.hoofride.co.uk/default.aspx] helps connect people with clubs and other riders as well as offering opportunities for the disabled and underprivileged. The majority of centres and riding schools will provide horses for lessons as well as beginner equipment.

JOIN THE CLUB

There are many different avenues of getting into equestrianism. It is best to decide in advance whether you want to go into eventing versus horseball for example before contacting a club. However, once you are ready to go, Hoof have a handy Club Finder on their website.

VOLUNTEER

Volunteering is a great way to get involved and meet like-minded people, and with the BEF’s excellent support and training programmes, there are plenty of roles to take on.

WHAT’S ON

The Hoof website has a regularly updated events section that includes television information as well as live events you can catch this year.

COACHING

If you are looking for a way to give back to the sport, there is no better way than becoming a coach.  Hoof provide all the information you need to get started on qualifications on their website.
